Description
| The time is the Heian period, in the capital of Kyoto. The hero* Taira no Sadamichi is serving Minamoto no Yorimitsu with his fellow samurai Suebu. One day, Sadamichi is defeated by a newcomer, Watanabe Tsuna, with a bow, which is his specialty, and he becomes depressed. Sadamichi and his friend Kimitomo take him out to the mountains to see the autumn leaves, but there they hear a demon singing. Since then, Kiitake has been performing in a way that is unbelievable, but he is gradually losing his strength. The demon is looking for an ancient tree where he can dwell, and for that purpose, he has come to Kyoto to dwell with Sadamichi. Meanwhile, Sadamichi meets an ancient cherry tree whose petals dance unseasonably and a cherry princess who loves the tree. ...... Sadamichi and Hazuki, a white fox who has come to help Sadamichi, work together to remove the demon that resides in Kiobu. 主人公・平貞道は、仲間の季武とともに、源頼光に仕えている。

それ以来、季武は人の力とは思えぬような活躍をするようになるが、次第にやつれていく。鬼は、自分が宿れる古木を探しており、そのために季武に宿って、京へきたのだ。一方、貞道は季節外れに花びらを舞わせる桜の古木と、その木を愛でる桜の姫と出会うのだが……。
貞道は、ふとしたことから助けあうようになった白きつね・葉月とともに、季武に宿る鬼を取りのぞこうと奔走する。
「鬼の腕」の伝説を下敷きに描かれる、のちに頼光四天王とよばれる若武者たちの物語。平安朝ファンタジー第2弾。
