| *Fan [National Treasure: Pine Trees] by Hasegawa Tohaku (for both men and women)* By Hasegawa Tohaku, Azuchi-Momoyama period, Tokyo National Museum *What is a collotype*? While offset printing, a common printing method, expresses colors and shading with a density of small dots, collotype expresses them with continuous gradation, allowing for more realistic and precise detail, similar to that of a photograph. Tohaku Hasegawa Born in Nanao, Noto (Ishikawa Prefecture) from 1539 to 1610. Founder of the Hasegawa school. At first, he mainly produced Buddhist paintings, but later went to Kyoto and became devoted to Sesshu. Studied Sung Yuan painting and the Makigyo style, and developed his own style of painting centering on ink and wash paintings. His representative works are [National Treasure: Pine Trees], [Enko (Monkey) with Dead Tree], and [Chishakuin Golden Heki painting]. |

長谷川等伯(はせがわ とうはく)
天文8〜慶長15年(1539〜1610)、能登七尾(石川県)生まれ。長谷川派の祖。はじめは仏画を中心に制作していたが、のちに京都へ出て雪舟へと傾倒。宋元画、牧谿様式を学び、水墨画を中心に独自の画境を開く。代表作は『国宝 松林図屏風』『枯木猿猴図』『智積院金碧画』。
