| *Fan [National Treasure: The Wind and Thunder Gods] by Tawaraya Sotatsu (for both men and women)* By Tawaraya Sotatsu, Edo period, Lent by Kenninji, Tokyo By Tawaraya Sotatsu Unknown date of birth and death. A painter active from Momoyama to the early Edo period, he presided over the Kyoto painting studio Eya [Tawaraya]. While rooted in the tradition of Yamato-e, his works are characterized by innovative forms, bold compositions, and vivid colors that are not bound by the formality of established schools. The decorative painting style originated by Sotatsu was developed into the Rimpa school by Ogata Korin. His representative works are [National Treasure: The Wind and Thunder Gods], [National Treasure: Lotus Pond with Water Fowl], and [National Treasure: Sekiya Mioji]. |

俵屋宗達 江戸時代 建仁寺蔵
俵屋宗達(たわらや そうたつ)
生没年不詳。桃山から江戸初期にかけ活躍した絵師で、京都の作画工房の絵屋「俵屋」の主宰者。大和絵の伝統に根ざしながらも、既成流派の形式にとらわれない斬新な造形、大胆な構図と鮮麗な色彩を特徴とする。宗達が創始したこの装飾画の流れは、尾形光琳により「琳派」として展開していった。代表作は『国宝 風神雷神図屏風』『国宝 蓮池水禽図』『国宝 関屋澪標図』。
