Description
*National Treasure, Caricatures of birds, animals and humans, collotype long postcard*. Heian period, Lent by Kozanji temple. This is a long and thin size postcard that maximizes the interest of the picture scroll. The collotype printing allows you to enjoy the beauty of the ink lines even more. *What is collotype*? While offset printing, a common printing method, expresses colors and shading with a density of small dots, collotype printing expresses them with continuous gradation, allowing the use of fine details that are closer to the real thing, like photographs. * * National Treasure [Caricatures of Birds, Beasts and Humans], Heian - Kamakura period, Lent by Kozan-ji This is a picture scroll consisting of four scrolls, A, B, C and D. The first scroll is a caricature of anthropomorphic figures. Scroll A is the most popular of the four scrolls, with its spontaneous depiction of anthropomorphic animals. The author of the scroll is said to be Toba Monk Kayou (1053-1140), but there is no proof, and various theories exist. Recent research has revealed that the order of the paintings has been changed since the original. It is thought that this is because they were originally divided into two volumes and then joined together. Kozan-ji Temple Official Certification Our [Caricatures of Birds, Beasts, and Humans] series has been commercialized with the permission of Kozanji Temple (Kyoto), where the works are kept.
