*Frame Painting [One Hundred Famous Views of Edo: Kameido Umeyashiki], By Ando Hiroshige*.
By Ando Hiroshige, Edo period, Tokyo National Museum

*What is collotype*?
While offset printing, a common printing method, expresses colors and shading with a density of small dots, collotype expresses them with continuous gradation, allowing for more realistic and precise detail, similar to that of photographs.

Hiroshige Ando
From 1797 to 1858 (Kansei 9 to Ansei 5), he became a student of Utagawa Toyohiro and entered the Ukiyo-e world. At first, he painted beauties and portraits of actors, but he gained fame for his landscapes and became a leading artist of landscape prints. He also left behind flower-and-bird and hand-painted works. His representative works include "The Fifty-three Stages of the Tokaido", "Famous Places in the Eastern Capital", and "Eight Views of Omi".
