Focusing on Fujita's travels and colors, this book traces the artist's career and life. In search of local landscapes and people, exotic history and customs In the 1920s, Fujita completed "Milky Skin" and became the darling of the Paris art world. He then left Paris, and in the course of his long journey, developed new motifs, compositions for group portraits, and expressive techniques with rich colors. This exhibition details the transition of his work through illustrations and text. This is the official catalog and book of the exhibition held at the Pola Museum of Art in Hakone, Japan. Although we associate Fujita with "Paris," "Milky Skin," and "Cats," he actually traveled around the world from around 1930 and painted many colorful works, using his travels as his studio. In particular, during his travels in Central and South America, Japan, and China from the early to mid-1930s, he developed an interest in local history, customs, folk tools, and architecture, and produced paintings full of originality by incorporating local sketches, photographs taken during his travels, and folk materials he collected himself into his works. This book features many of Fujita's colorful works from his travels around the world. *Some of them are written in both Japanese and English.
