リベロ制度が採用されたのは、1998年。
今から20年ほど前のことです。
小学2年からバレーボールを始め、
ずっとアタッカーだった私が、
初めてリベロになったのは
大学1年の時(2000年)でした。
当初は、守備の要であるリベロというポジションの重圧がのしかかり、
どうしたらチームの勝利に貢献できるか、
悩む日々を送っていました。
コート上に一つしかないポジションをつかみ、
試合に出るために必死で技術力を磨いてきました。
けれども、年齢を重ねるとともに私はあることに気づきました。
リベロというポジションは、
個人の技術力だけを磨いても、
試合に勝てない。
個の技術力には、限界がある、と。
バレーボールは、ボールをつなぐ競技です。
チームの1人1人がそれぞれの役割を全うし、
組織的な動きをそろえることが、
強いチームの要素となります。
コートで組織的な動きを統括するのが、
私はリベロというポジションだと思っています。
リベロは、コートの中と外をつなぐ
重要なポジションでもあり、
チームとしての最後の砦でもあるのです。
この本では、コートのキーマンである
