Kishu Yellowstone *Place of Origin:Wakayama Prefecture In ancient Japan, it was believed that red stones from the Kino River would keep evil away by keeping them close at hand and wearing them. It was said to keep away evil spirits. This yellow jade is a member of that group. Stones from the Kino River contain a large amount of iron, which oxidizes to give them a reddish color, and the yellow color is the result of the oxidation process. The Kinokawa and Yoshino Rivers are subjected to high temperature and high pressure conditions, The Kino and Yoshino Rivers provide an environment that produces red and yellowish stones with high Mohs hardness, Similar stones are also produced in the neighboring Nara Prefecture. The color of chlorite is diverse, with a variety of colors such as green, white, and yellow. The reason for this is that the stone is originally based on chlorite and epidote. The color varies depending on the speed of oxidation and the age of the stone. The white color is due to the high content of silicon (quartz) produced by hydrothermal action. 紀州黄玉(KISHU Yellowstone）
・産地：和歌山県
古来の日本では紀ノ川で産出された赤石を身近に置き、身に着けることにより
魔を寄せ付けないといわれていました。この黄玉はその仲間です。
紀ノ川の石は多くの鉄が含まれ、それが酸化することで赤みを帯びますが、黄色はその途中経過のものです。
紀ノ川や吉野川ではこういった高温高圧の条件下において、
モース硬度の高い赤石や黄玉が生み出される環境が整っているため、
隣接する奈良県でも同じような石が産出されます。
色は多彩であり、緑や白、黄色などのさまざまな発色を見ることができます。
その理由は、元はクロライト(緑泥石)とエピドート(緑簾石)がベースの石であり
酸化鉄が含まれるために、その酸化のスピードや年月によって異なる色味を魅せています。
白は熱水作用で生まれたケイ素(石英)が多く含まれたものです。
紀ノ川の護岸工事などにより埋め立てられ、現在は過去に産出されたものしか流通していません。
