Description
Sumimaru is a zabuton for tea ceremony and its size is [40cm x 48cm], which is vertically longer and thinner than the small zabuton [45cm x 42cm]. It is mainly used in Zen temples and restaurants that serve chakaiseki (tea ceremony dishes). Platz Co., Ltd. was established in Nishijin in the 1887s and opened a store in Saga-Arashiyama when the processing factory was relocated. Platz's handmade zabuton have been featured in anan, Sarai, Figaro Japon, etc.... Our handmade zabuton have been introduced in many magazines, TV, FM, AM, etc., and are also used in temples, shrines, and famous ryotei (traditional Japanese restaurants) all over Japan. All products are manufactured in Japan. [Platz's cushions] We aim to create products with warmth, focusing on the comfort of natural materials. We aim to create products with warmth. Zabuton is derived from tatami mats. Ancient tatami mats served as both bedding and seating, and were an expression of status and authority. The seating part of the tatami developed into the prototype of the zabuton, the shitone. In the Kamakura period (1185-1333), with the resumption of cotton imports and improvements in production technology, people began to use cloth for the side, and by the middle of the Edo period (1603-1867), it took on almost its present form with cotton inside the fabric. However, it was not until the Taisho period (1912-1926) that it became popular among the general public. |
