今から42年前。
すぐ近くに止まったクマタカを目の前にして
その高貴な姿に圧倒され
シャッターすら押せなかったといいます。
以来、クマタカの観察、行動の研究を続け
その生きざまをなんとか画像に残そうと
撮影し続けてきました。
真木氏の撮影はまず撮影はさておき
被写体となる鳥の生態や行動を
徹底的に観察することから始まります。
そして目的の画像を撮影できるポイントを絞り込み、
予測をして待ち構えて撮るという手法です。
クマタカの撮影の中心は冬。
厳冬の山の中で年間50〜60日もブラインドの中に籠り
シャッターチャンスが訪れるのを待ち続けます。
厳冬の山の中ですからその寒さは想像を絶します。
何日も姿を見せることがないことも
しばしばですからひたすら忍耐です。
そんな苦労を重ねて、
画面に入りきらないほどカメラに接近してきた迫力ある写真、
紅葉真っ盛りの中に映える高貴な姿、
降りしきる雪の中で獲物の出現を待ち続ける孤高の勇姿など
何年もかけて撮り続けてきました。
そうして撮り溜めてきた中から今回1冊にまとられました。
真木氏は猛禽類の撮影をライフワークの一つにしています。

に続く猛禽類4冊目の写真集が本書『孤高の狩人 熊鷹』です。
