Description
| The islands of Goto in Nagasaki Prefecture fascinate landscape photographer* Hajime Yamamoto. The scenery of 152 islands of various sizes and the varied nature created by the climate of the rias coastline. The townscape is a mixture of samurai residences* with churches and Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples due to the unique history of the area. Fukue Island, the center* where Goto City is located, is an island where camellias bloom in the spring, and warm currents make for warm winters and relatively cool summers. Further north is Kuga Island, famous for the old Owa church building. Narushima is famous for Egami village, a place of faith for hidden Christians. Nakadori Island, where the town of Shin-Kamigoto is located, was a port of call for Japanese envoys to the Tang Dynasty during the Heian period (794-1185) and prospered as a hub of continental exchange. Hajime Yamamoto, who loves the Goto Islands and has painstakingly traveled to the islands to photograph them, presents a collection of photographs that convey the charm of the islands. |
