Description
| The original trench coat was a tie-locken coat (a waterproof coat with no buttons and a waist strap closure), but it was modified for field use at the start of World War I. Buttons were used, large epaulettes (to hold map cases and pistols, which were the officer's distinctive equipment) and storm flaps (to prevent rainwater from entering the coat) were added.
