| Tall* The ornament is a puppet used in traditional Indian shadow puppet theater called Bomaratha. What is *Seater? The heroine of the Indian long epic [Ramayana] and the queen of the hero [Rama]. The main story of the Ramayana is that the heroine Sita is kidnapped by Ravana, and the hero, Rama, goes to rescue her. What is *Thor* Bomaratha? Thor*Bomaratha is a traditional shadow play from the Indian state of Andhra*Pradesh. In Telugu, it means [Tholu = leather] and [Bommalata = puppet show]. Many of the performances are based on ancient Indian mythology, and many well-known Hindu gods and goddesses also make appearances. Puppet theater itself is known as a traditional art form, and the puppets used in it are also highly artistic, making it one of the most popular traditional crafts. |

インドの長編叙事詩「ラーマーヤナ」のヒロインで、主人公「ラーマ」の妃。 ラーマヤナは、ラーヴァナにさらわれてしまうヒロインのシーターを、主人公のラーマが救いに行く話がメインストーリーとなります。
■トール・ボマラータとは
インドのアンドラ・プラデーシュ州の伝統的な影絵のことです。テルグ語で、「Tholu=革」、「Bommalata=人形劇」を意味します。 上演される演目は、インドの古代神話を基にしたものが多く、ヒンドゥー教で良く知られる神様なども多く登場します。この人形劇自体も伝統芸能として知られていますが、使用する人形も芸術性が高いことから、伝統工芸品の一つとして人気が高く、現地ではこの技法を用いた様々な製品が作られています。
