The label was developed to establish a set of rules to ensure that textile products are properly organic. Cotton, as it is commonly distributed, is heavily fertilized with chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides in order to be produced efficiently in large quantities. Organic cotton, on the other hand, is grown exclusively with organic fertilizers, which contributes to healthier water and soil quality and reduced carbon dioxide emissions.
