Kaya Fabric Dishcloth with Embroidery [Japanese Lifestyle] Donabe
Kaya Fabric Dishcloth with Embroidery - Donabe

These [Kaya Fabric Dish Cloths] are made from mosquito net fabric carefully and painstakingly woven over time in Nara Prefecture—Japan’s only remaining production center for mosquito nets—and then embroidered or printed in Wakayama Prefecture.

It is said that these dishcloths originated when female factory workers at a mosquito net factory, feeling it was a waste to discard defective fabric or scraps left over from cutting, began sewing several pieces together to make them for their own use.

At first, the fabric is stiff and taut due to the starch, but once you remove the starch with lukewarm water or plain water, it will shrink surprisingly much.
As a result, it becomes soft, fluffy, and supple to the touch. It also has excellent absorbency (1.3 times that of cotton), dries quickly, and is durable.

They have a variety of uses, such as hand towels, draining vegetables, and wiping dishes.
Once they’ve worn out, they can be repurposed as counter cloths or cleaning rags. It’s wonderful that they last so long.

The cozy, subtle embroidery, reminiscent of traditional Japanese living, brings a smile to your day.

Recommended Uses: Microwave wipes, counter cloths, hand towels, dish towels,
