This seal piggy bank is a reissue of the one that Nordea Bank in Finland used to give as a novelty gift to children around 1970.
The motif is of the Saimaa ringed seal, which lives only in Lake Saimaa, Finland. listed as an endangered species by WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature), it is the rarest seal in the world with a current population of about 350 to 400 individuals, and every effort is being made to protect the population.

When it was a novelty, children used to leave the key with the bank and have it opened at the bank when their piggy bank was full.
Today, a key is included, which you insert into the bottom and turn to open and close.

The body has a ceramic-like texture, but is made of lightweight, break-resistant plastic. The natural color and texture will fit in well with your room interior.
