Description
| Reiko Ikemura and Chiharu Shiota are two internationally renowned contemporary artists. This long-awaited collection of dialogues between the two artists discusses their thoughts and feelings behind the scenes of their collaborative work. The exhibition "The Universe in Your Hands" (Kenji Taki Gallery, Nagoya) was held in the spring of 2021 by internationally acclaimed artists* Reiko Ikemura and Chiharu Shiota. In addition to their own works, the exhibition included collaborative* drawings, a first attempt for both artists. While the two artists have been in lockdown, they have been regularly visiting each other's homes and studios in Berlin, Germany, where they are based, to engage in dialogue. This book contains "Dialogues," a collection of five such conversations, as well as works from their two-person exhibition "The Universe in Your Hands. In the dialogues, the artists exchanged opinions while looking at each other's works, and chatted about such topics as their thoughts on the production of the Corona Disaster, life as a female artist, the art scene after the fall of the Berlin Wall, putting works into words, family, art education in Japan and Germany, the idea of those who teach art and those who are taught, the future art market, and so on. The artists exchanged opinions and chatted frankly in a very relaxed atmosphere as they looked at each other's works. The content is very interesting not only for aspiring artists but also for a wide variety of people, including realistic exchanges about the struggles and worries of the artists as they create their works and as their collaboration begins and finishes. |

世界的に活躍する作家・イケムラレイコ、塩田千春の二人展「手の中に抱く宇宙」(ケンジタキギャラリー、名古屋)が2021年春に開催された。展示には、それぞれの作品のほか、お互い初めての挑戦となるコラボレーション・ドローイングも出品した。
