Known for his delicate black-and-white landscape photographs, British photographer Michael *Kenna visits Hokkaido every year to capture the traces of people and the invisible things remembered in each place, using snow covering the magnificent land, fences and stakes, or nameless trees and windbreaks as motifs. This portfolio is a selection of 7 works, all taken in 2020, and printed in collotype for the first time for Kenna, with a unique texture that gives a sense of [wabi]. Michael*Kenna Born in 1953 in Lancashire, northwest England. After studying at the London School of Art, he immigrated to the U.S. in the 1970s and currently resides in Seattle. He has received international acclaim for his works, which are rich in poetic sentiment, and which are based on his favorite subject matter, Japan. His work has been collected by more than 70 museums around the world, and he has published numerous books of his photographs. *What is a collotype? While offset printing, a common printing method, expresses colors and shading with a density of small dots, collotype expresses them with continuous gradation, which makes it possible to express them with fine details that are closer to the real thing, as in a photograph. The *Mini Portfolio Series is a series that focuses on size and set contents so that users can easily enjoy photographic works with the expressive power that only Collotype can offer.
