In February, when there is still snow on the ground, the willow trees signal the arrival of spring ahead of the others. Among the willows, the "pussy willow" is the one that anticipates the arrival of spring with its silvery-white ears of flowers spreading their downy hairs. In China, willow trees are considered "auspicious trees" that herald spring, revive spring, and symbolize rebirth. For this reason, it is customary to place weeping willows on gates and eaves during the New Year's holiday. It is also said that weeping willow trees were given to departing friends as a "loop" to wish for their reunion. And as the seasons change and summer arrives, the weeping willow is also used as a symbol of the coolness and serenity of the season, The willow tree also attracts people with its cool and peaceful atmosphere. It is said that the name "willow" changed from "yanoki" to "yanagi" because Chinese people used this tree to make arrows. |
