| [This Beitouishi necklace is made of medicinal stone, which is said to be "a stone that does not need a doctor. It is a medicinal stone that is effective for beauty and health, improving stiff shoulders and sensitivity to cold, and promoting blood flow, and is recommended for people who want beautiful skin or are concerned about their health. Beitou is described as "like wearing a hot spring" because of its radioactive radium content, which has beauty*health benefits. The stone is produced only in Taiwan's Beitou Hot Springs and Akita Prefecture's Tamagawa Hot Springs. 北投石は、放射性ラジウムを含有することから「まるで温泉を身につけているよう」と評されるほどの美容・健康効果をもたらします。
台湾の北投温泉と秋田県の玉川温泉でのみ産出する石で、温泉地で産出するため、温泉と同じ効果があると言われていて、テレビなどでもよく紹介されています。
北投石は台湾でも日本でも天然記念物となっており、新たな石は産出しません。
そのため、 北投石の粉末をセラミック（陶器）として焼き固めています。その際に土などを混ぜることにより、色をつけることができます。
北投石は放射性のラジウムを含む含鉛重晶石で放射能被曝が心配されますが、ラジウムも、ラジウムが崩壊して生じるラドンもごく微量で、その大半がα線です。
α線は紙一枚で被曝を防ぐことができますので、体内に吸引しない限りは問題ありません。
ラジウムは融点が700度、沸点が1,140度であるため気体にはならず、内部被曝のおそれはまずありません。
また、ラドンは希ガスの一つですが、半減期は4日弱なので体内に入ってもすぐ体外に出るそうです。
