Description
| Echizen, the largest washi production area in Japan, has a 1,500-year tradition and has long been known for its beauty and durability as the highest quality washi paper. Even Japan's first Japanese banknotes were made using Echizen washi, and the paper has been used to improve and popularize the technique for 1,500 years, and the highest quality washi has received generous protection from the Shogunate, clans, and the national government. Even today, numerous washi workshops continue to refine their unique techniques. In the Echizen washi villages, Yamatsugu Paper Mills has the unique technique of making ukiwashi (floating paper). [The name "uki kishi" comes from the fact that the surface of the paper is clearly uneven, giving the appearance of a floating pattern. The edges of the bumps are highly precise and appear more three-dimensional than the embossing process seen elsewhere. We have created a new card holder expressed with the technique of floating paper. Each card holder is carefully made one by one. Watching the papermaking process in the dark workshop, I was fascinated by the way the surface of the water shimmers and shimmers as it catches the sunlight. I wanted to give form to this fluid and beautiful scene, and this pattern was born from that desire. Because of the different positions of the cut-outs, no two patterns are the same. The design is easy to use for both formal and casual occasions, just as the light changes its shape as it ripples. The sharp edges of the floating paper and the organic lines of the ripples create a pleasant texture. We hope you will try it. |
