Description
| \Newly launched on July 12, 2024 (Friday)/. *Koji Onaka [Slow Boat] Mini Portfolio*. [Slow Boat" is a series of photographs taken by Koji Onaka, who has developed his own unique worldview through his activities centered on his independent gallery "Kaido", while traveling throughout Japan between 1983 and 1999. There are six works in all, including the butterfly work used on the cover of the book, houseboats, fireworks on the beach, docks, snowy towns, and works taken from the unique perspective of a cat lover. Using warm paper with a texture different from that of the original silver halide photographs, the photographs were produced on nostalgic color collotypes that trace the memory of this photographer. Koji Onaka Born in Fukuoka Prefecture in 1960, Onaka graduated from the Tokyo College of Photography in 1982, and after working with Daido Moriyama and other photographers at the independent gallery CAMP, he opened the gallery Kaido in 1988. He has a strong following both in Japan and abroad for his photographs of deserted rural scenes that evoke a sense of nostalgia. *What is a collotype? While offset printing, a common printing method, expresses colors and shading with a density of small dots, collotype expresses them with continuous gradation, which makes it possible to express them with fine detail that is closer to the real thing, just like a photograph. The *Mini Portfolio Series is a series that focuses on size and set contents so that users can easily enjoy photographic works with the expressive power that only Collotype can offer. Each set contains 8 x 10" sheets of collotype prints, which can be held in your hand and admired one at a time, or framed as a beautiful addition to your home decor. |
