Description
| 100th anniversary of Shiraga's birth: Kazuo Shiraga, abstract painter In the late 1950s, when Shiraga began action* painting with his bare feet, the avant-garde art group "Gutai," to which he belonged at the time, aimed to "create something that had never existed before," and its young members were creating new expressions one after another with free ideas. Among them, Shiraga's unique works were praised by the French art critic Michel Tapie, who visited Japan, and through him, his works became widely known abroad. This book describes Kazuo Shiraga's life from his birth to his later years, including the trajectory of his activities and the transition of his works, as well as his reputation in the art world up to the present day after his death. The book contains over 500 illustrations, including a selection of Kazuo Shiraga's major works consisting of approximately 350 pieces by the Kazuo Shiraga Memorial Office (Amagasaki City) and Shoichi Hirai, a researcher of [Gutai]. In addition, the book contains abundant photographic materials, a detailed chronology, reproductions of texts by Kazuo Shiraga himself, and interviews with related persons. This is a highly documentable volume that serves as a comprehensive overview of Kazuo Shiraga. |
