青い海に囲まれた、熊本県の南西部にある天草諸島。
豊かな自然と文化に育まれてきたこの場所には、かつて起こった戦いの歴史が残っています。
厳しい年貢の取り立てを受けていた農民や宗教弾圧を受けていたキリシタンが反発し、さらに幕府と戦うためにと大勢の人が集まったことで歴史上最大規模となったといわれている「島原・天草一揆」。
その先頭に立ったのが、まだ10代の若さだったという天草四郎でした。
