Description
Animals of the twelve signs of the Chinese zodiac combined for good luck This glasswork is based on the fictional animals depicted in Utagawa Yoshitora(*)'s work [Illustration of the Twelve Zodiac Signs for Safekeeping the Household]. [It is said that the name of the work, "The Twelve Animals Protecting the Safety of the Household," refers to the animals that are depicted to protect the safety of the household. It is also said that the name may refer to an ukiyoe woodblock print titled "Kotobuki to Izu" (The Beast that Said "Kotobuki"), which is said to have been created by an ukiyoe woodblock artist named Ennamisai Shigeko (*). Since the animal has the characteristic parts of all twelve signs of the Chinese zodiac, it is likely to bring you good luck if you display the auspicious animal named "Kotobuki" (longevity) *. *Yoshitora Utagawa: Ukiyoe artist from the late Edo period to the early Meiji period. *Enronsai Shigemitsu: Ukiyoe artist from the late Edo period to the Meiji period.
