Picture Book Publication Award Grand Prize Winner

Haruka moved to a new house during the spring vacation of her third year of elementary school and started commuting to school by bus.
Haruka's wish not to be separated from her best friend Rin-chan comes true,
Haruka is so excited that she lines up in front of the bus stop.

One morning, Haruka's mother saw the news on TV and said, "You should be careful with strangers.
[Be careful of strangers. There is a fourth grader in the same grade as Haruka who is worried about her future.]
Remembering her loud sigh and worried face, Haruka became nervous.

She got on the bus, trying not to look at other people's faces.
I was holding on to the railing of the bus and looking at the window,
A boy of junior high school age sitting in the seat in front of me
He began to make an announcement, imitating the driver.
[Next is the lifting platform, the lifting platform, please push the nearby buzzer if you want to get off the bus.]
Everyone around him looked warmly at the boy.

A few days later, the boy was sitting with his grandmother.
Haruka was looking out the window, holding on to the handrail as usual,
When the bus suddenly braked, the boy dropped the bag he was holding so dearly.
Then, marbles of various colors burst and began to roll around.

On the bus that Haruka rides every morning, she meets a boy with a disability,
The story is about Haruka's encounter with a disabled boy on the bus she rides every morning, and the way she connects with the people on the bus.

[The writer's hope is that readers will cherish the spirit of caring for each other.]
The author's wish that readers cherish the spirit of caring for each other is expressed in the main character's lines.
The artist's watercolor-centered expression, which is different from her pasteboard paintings, creates a gentle worldview.
The story conveys the true kindness and compassion of human beings at a time when human relationships are becoming increasingly fragile and people are prone to doubt and suspicion.
Winner of the Grand Prize of the 13th Picture Book Publication Award.
*Elementary school children's reading series

*Age range: 5 years old to read aloud to children, elementary school students to read by themselves.
