[The collection of works in this set includes paintings of plants, animals, people, and landscapes. [The name "Tsushi-Yanagi-Ie" is one of Koreshin's signatures, and is derived from the willow trees that could be seen along the opposite bank of the Kanda River from where Koreshin lived at the time. The beautiful and exquisite composition depicts a moment in daily life that moves the viewer. [Artist Profile] Zeshin Shibata Born in Edo (present-day Tokyo) between the 4th year of Bunka era and the 24th year of Meiji era (1807-91). From the end of the Edo period to the middle of the Meiji period, he was active as a painter directly descended from the Maruyama-Shijo school and a maki-e artist who succeeded Edo maki-e. As one of the first Imperial Household Artists, he greatly contributed to the development of modern art in Japan. His representative works include "The Painting on the Barrier of Myoshinji Temple's Daioin Temple", "Demon Woman", and "Hawk on Waterfall". 柴田是真(しばた ぜしん)
文化4〜明治24年(1807-91)、江戸生まれ。江戸時代末から明治中期にかけて、 円山四条派直系の絵師および江戸蒔絵を継承する蒔絵師として活躍し、初代帝室技芸員の一人として日本の近代美術の発展に大きく貢献しました。代表作は《妙心寺大雄院障壁画》《鬼女図額面》《瀑布に鷹図》など。
