〈対柳居画譜〉は、植物や動物、人物や風景などを描いた作品集です。「対柳居」とは是真の号の一つで、当時是真が暮らしていた神田川の川岸から対岸沿いに柳が見えたことに由来しています。心動かされる日常の一瞬が美しく絶妙な構図で描かれています。

＜作家紹介＞

柴田是真（しばた ぜしん）

文化4〜明治24年(1807-91)、江戸生まれ。江戸時代末から明治中期にかけて、 円山四条派直系の絵師および江戸蒔絵を継承する蒔絵師として活躍し、初代帝室技芸員の一人として日本の近代美術の発展に大きく貢献しました。代表作は《妙心寺大雄院障壁画》《鬼女図額面》《瀑布に鷹図》など。

＜Zeshin Shibata Postcard Set: Tairyūkyo Gafu＞

This postcard set features eight selected works from Tairyūkyo Gafu (The Album of Tairyūkyo), one of Zeshin Shibata’s representative masterpieces among its seventy-two paintings.

The album depicts plants, animals, people, and landscapes—scenes from everyday life rendered with refined beauty and exquisite composition.

“Tairyūkyo” was one of Shibata’s art names, inspired by the view of willow trees growing along the opposite bank of the Kanda River, seen from his residence.

Each image captures a poetic moment of daily life with sensitivity and elegance.

Artist Profile

＜Zeshin Shibata (1807–1891)＞

Born in Edo (present-day Tokyo), Zeshin Shibata was active from the late Edo to the mid-Meiji period as both a painter of the Maruyama-Shijō school and a master of makie (lacquer decoration).

He was one of the first artists appointed as an Imperial Household Artist (Teishitsu Gigei’in), contributing greatly to the development of modern Japanese art.

His major works include Sliding Door Paintings at Daiō-in, Myōshin-ji Temple, Demon Woman, and Hawk and Waterfall.
