Description
| Rug mat in popular Kalamkari print Indian Kalamkari rugs with plant motifs. The deep colors blend easily with wood flooring. Recommended size for kitchen mats, etc. KALAMKARI Kalamkari means "pen" and "kali" means "work." It is a traditional Indian technique of wrapping a bamboo stick and pointing colors like a pen. The technique gradually shifted from hand-drawing to using woodblocks, and later the flower arabesques themselves came to be called kalamkari as well. The prints are dyed with natural dyes using plants and trees, and each pattern is drawn out by hand-pressing with a block of woodblock. Charcoal, alum, grasses and flowers, indigo, Akane, turmeric, etc. are used for coloring, and the colors blend with each wear, expressing a rustic hue. |
