*Tea towel culture of British origin

Tea towels, as the name suggests, are a traditional fabric deeply rooted in the English tea culture. Although similar fabrics have existed since ancient times, the present-day prototype was created in Victorian England, where the custom of serving tea at social gatherings spread and tea towels came to be used as an accompaniment to fine tableware.

At that time, tea towels were wrapped around teapots to keep them warm and used to protect bread and cakes from dust. Later, as the custom of drinking tea spread to the general public, beautifully designed tea towels became popular along with the development of industry.

*Various uses

Tea towels are now used not only for tea time, but also as a versatile cloth that can be used mainly in the kitchen. It is a rectangular cloth and measures approximately 70cm*45cm. It can be used for the following purposes

*Luncheon mat

As a luncheon mat for tea and meals

*For wrapping lunch boxes, etc.

Can also be used like a lunch cloth

*Drainage mat

Can be used as a simple draining mat to place small items to be washed.

*To blindfold cloth

To keep dust away from dishes and groceries

*For potholders and pot holders

For holding hot pots with handles or as pot holders

As shown above, this is a convenient cloth that can be used for a wide range of purposes, especially in the kitchen. Conversely, it is not recommended for use as a dish cloth because of the fine threads used and the fabric's unevenness and lack of strong absorbency.

Also, the cloth has a loop at the edge so it can be hooked onto a hook or similar. Multiple designs can be lined up to decorate your kitchen in a very cute way.

*Fusion with traditional Indian culture

Tea towels came to India from England along with the tea culture. The combination with the traditional Indian woodblock dyeing process creates a very nice design.

Handmade by traditional woodblock dyers, the towels are decorated with beautiful botanical chintz and geometric patterns, and the colors are sophisticated.

In woodblock dyeing, the pattern is drawn by pressing the woodblock by hand, changing the plate for each color. This process results in partial irregularities and chips in the prints, as well as subtle overlapping of the plates, which gives the woodblock-dyed fabrics a unique and appealing texture.
