「高野山参道霊木 杉 霊珠」とは?
・高野山参道
高野山、表参道入口一の橋から弘法大師御廟まで通じる約2kmの参道両側には、何百年も経た老杉が高くそびえ、その老杉の元には、少しでもお大師様の近くで供養されたいと願う数万基を超える各時代のあらゆる人々の供養塔が立ち並び、高野山が日本一の霊場であるという事を表しています。
手水橋を渡ると、そこから先は死の世界に入るという意味になります。
なぜならここに流れる川は、昔から金の河と呼ばれ、金は死の隠語を表していたから。
死の河、つまり三途の川を表しているからです。
奥にある御廟で祈れば、お大師様が必ず応えて下さる。
入定留身の聖地として、今日なお御廟にお祈りを捧げる参拝者は絶えません。
・霊珠
弘法大師・空海の御廟がある高野山参道にある杉の巨木の一部で、入手が困難な貴重な木です。
日本一の霊山、霊場で信仰を受け育ったこの巨木。そこに眠る人々の思いを込めて作り出されたその玉に、霊珠という名を付けました。

高野山では古くから、
杉・檜・樅・栂・赤松・高野槇
の6種の針葉樹の伐採を制限してきました。
参道には樹齢500年以上の立派な杉が多く存在し、高野山の歴史を見守っています。
