The calendar used to count down the days until the long-awaited birthday of Jesus Christ (=Christmas) is called an "advent calendar," and the card-shaped calendar is also called an "advent card. In Scandinavian countries, it is called "Yule*Calendar", which is a remnant from ancient times. The counting of the Advent period differs according to Christian denominations, but generally it begins on the Sunday four weeks prior to the Sunday closest to December 25.
