Description
| G.B.'s (Chung G.B.'s) Zee beads are ancient beads from Tibet. Like Etchitocarnelian, they are made of agate with patterns created by burning naturally occurring dyes onto the agate. They are said to have been made between the 1st and 6th centuries AD. However, the composition of the dyes used in the firing process is still unknown, making it one of the most enigmatic antique beads. They are mainly found in Tibet, but have also been found in Bhutan and Ladakh in the Himalayas. It is believed that the meaning of the beads differs depending on the pattern of the firing, and those with a round "eye" pattern and in good condition are very popular. In Tibet, it is considered a talisman of wealth and prosperity, and has been passed down from generation to generation. In recent years, they have become increasingly popular in China, where they are called "Heavenly Pearls." There are many replicas made using the same technique, but ancient ji beads, which have been handed down from generation to generation, are very rare. |
