There are plenty of apples, butter, peas, and cinnamon, but no apples. The old lady, who really wants to eat the apple pie, decides to go on a trip with some plums from her garden. [She decided to take some apples from her garden and set off on a journey, "I'll find someone who wants plums and ask him to give me an apple pie.] And so the old lady begins to walk. She continues on her way, exchanging her possessions with the people she meets. The story was written more than 100 years ago and has been retold in various forms. The grandmother's generous words, "Give and receive*," remain in the heart of this delightful picture book. A recipe for "Marugoto Ringo Pie" is included at the end of the book! |

むかしむかしあるところに、おばあさんがいました。ある日、おばあさんは、りんごのパイが食べたくなりました。「りんごを まるごと つかって、おいしい パイを つくるとしよう！」ところが、りんごがありません。こむぎこと、バターと、さとうと、シナモンはたっぷりあるのに、りんごはひとつもないのです。
どうしてもりんごのパイを食べたいおばあさんは、庭にあるすももの実を持って、旅にでることにしました。「すももが ほしい ひとを みつけて、りんごと とりかえっこ してもらおう。」と、歩きはじめたおばあさん。出会った人たちと、持っているものを交換しながら、つきすすんでいきます。
100年以上前にできて、さまざまな形で再話されてきたお話を、日本語に翻訳し、新しく絵をつけました。おばあさんが大らかに言う「よのなか あげたり もらったり･･･」という言葉が心に残る楽しい絵本です。
