Description
| This is a handmade teapot crafted by Taizen Yamamoto, a Traditional Craftsman of Yokkaichi Banko-yaki. Taizen’s teapots are characterized by a texture that conveys the warmth of handcrafted work. The teapot features a ceramic tea strainer, each one carefully hand-drilled. A booklet detailing the history of the pottery is included. Yokkaichi Banko-yaki is one of Japan’s leading production centers for teapots* and earthenware pots, and its unglazed teapots—fired without glaze on the interior—stand alongside Tokoname-yaki as one of the two major production centers. A key feature of unglazed teapots is that the clay body is fired as-is. Because the iron content in the clay interacts well with the components in tea, it is said to brew a smoother, more delicious cup of tea. [Ceramic Tea Strainer / Wheel-Thrown] [Banko-yaki] Banko-yaki is a traditional pottery style produced in the Yokkaichi area of Mie Prefecture that has been in continuous production since the Edo period. Banko-yaki teapots retain heat well while remaining easy to hold, making them ideal for everyday use. It is said that the iron content in the clay interacts well with the components in the tea, resulting in a smoother, more delicious brew. The understated elegance created by traditional craftsmanship blends naturally not only with traditional Japanese spaces but also with modern interiors. It is a delightful item not only for your own home but also as a gift for tea enthusiasts. |
