Description
| This red clay teapot features delicate hand-carvings across its entire surface by the popular carver [Seigetsu]. The beautiful, rounded form of the inro-style lid is meticulously carved with bold, flowing cloud patterns and delicate cherry blossom* petals. This creates a three-dimensional play of light and shadow, and the high level of skill and artistic sensibility of the artisan can be felt in every single carving. Red clay develops a deeper luster the more it is used, and is cherished as a material that enriches the tea-drinking experience. The warmth and presence unique to handcrafted pieces make them ideal not only as functional items but also for display and collection. This hand-carved Shudai teapot is a craftwork highly valued for the artisanal craftsmanship that goes into each individual piece. [Tokoname-yaki] Counted among Japan’s Six Ancient Kilns, its origins date back to the late Heian period. A distinctive feature of Tokoname-yaki is its use of iron-rich clay sourced from the Chita Peninsula. 日本六古窯の一つに数えられ、その起源は平安末期にまでさかのぼります。
常滑焼の特徴は知多半島で採れる鉄分を多く含んだ陶土を使用している点です。
その性質を活かして、鉄分を赤く発色させることを朱泥と言い、
常滑焼を特徴付ける色の焼き物ができました。
