Shinzan Kiln Yamatsu: Kiln-Change Glaze “Kukuri” Sencha Bowl, Natural Beige

A charming tea bowl featuring a kiln-change glaze that reveals its unique character.

The “Kukuri” (knot) shape is characterized by a rim that appears to be tightly tied.
The bowl is slightly curved to fit comfortably against the lips.
This design is a modern reinterpretation of the size and shape of the Kise Tenmoku tea bowls that first appeared during the Muromachi period.

The glaze is available in a total of 10 colors.

“Natural” refers to a slightly yellowish-white color, similar to that of unbleached cotton.
“Koban” glaze refers to a glaze whose color is determined by its location within the kiln, as well as the rising and cooling temperatures.
The sencha bowls we deliver feature glaze colors that reflect the seasonal temperatures of the day as sensed by the glaze inside the kiln.
No two are exactly the same—please enjoy the unique variations in hue of each piece.

*Koban glaze is greatly influenced by kiln temperature, primarily resulting in unique, slightly yellowish brown tones.
"Heavy browning" features random brown patterns.
Please note that even if you purchase multiple pieces of the same color, the shades may not match exactly.
Please understand this before making your purchase.
“Heavy” and “light” browning are rough guidelines.
Please understand that these are not precise criteria.

Recommended uses: Teacups, cups, sencha bowls,
