| *What is [Vermillion Obsidian (Red Tokachi Stone)]? This obsidian was formed approximately 1.5 million years ago as a result of intense volcanic activity in the Daisetsuzan mountain range. Since ancient times, it has been crafted into tools such as [arrowheads] and [knives] and has been cherished by people. Although the outer surface becomes scratched and whitish as it flows down rivers, some pieces still reveal a faintly jet-black glassy core visible from the outside. Among these, the red variety is locally known as Vermilion Obsidian and has become quite rare today. 約150万年前、大雪山の激しい火山活動によって生まれたオブシディアンです。
昔から「矢じり」や「ナイフ」などの道具に加工され、親しまれてきました。
川を流れて外側は傷がついて白っぽくなりますが、かすかに真黒なガラス質が外から見えるものもあります。
その中でも赤いものを地元ではヴァーミリオンオブシディアンと呼び、今では希少となっています。
