*What is [Yamazakura Stone]?

Toyama Prefecture lies within the Hida Belt geological region. The stone contains pink potassium feldspar and titanium-based magnetite, giving it a faint magnetic field. It was used in the mausoleums of the Maeda family—Sengoku-period warlords who ruled the Toyama Domain—but, perhaps because such a large quantity of stone was required, a similar stone from distant Okayama, known as Mansei Stone, was also transported and used.
I don’t know why the Maeda family specifically preferred this pink stone rather than using other, more readily available stones when there was a shortage, but perhaps they were drawn to its beautiful color.
