*What is [Tsugaru Brocade Red Stone (TUGARU Brocase Red Stone)]?

"Brocade Stone" is a general term referring to colorful, patterned stones produced in Aomori Prefecture that contain two or more colors.

These stones are mined across a wide area and come in a diverse range of varieties.

Its beauty, which touches the heart and evokes a sense of freedom, led to its official recognition as a traditional craft of Aomori Prefecture in Heisei 8.

It is composed of various minerals such as jadeite, chalcedony, and agate. Since the color and patterns depend on the specific minerals present, it is rare to find two stones that are exactly alike.

It is collected as pebbles washed up on riverbanks and beaches.

Tsugaru Nishiki-ishi dating back approximately 5,500 to 4,000 years ago has been unearthed from Jomon-period archaeological sites, along with decorative items such as magatama.

During the Edo period, it was popularly used for hairpins and obi clasps, and it is said that the techniques for processing this Nishiki-ishi were passed down to Yamanashi Prefecture, laying the foundation for technological innovations in Yamanashi crystal processing.
