| *What is [Fukui Blue]? A stone from Echizen discovered by Emperor Keitai. The fierce general [Shibata Katsuie] is said to have loved this [blue] so much that he had his castle’s roof thatched with Shakuya stone. It is primarily quarried in the Mount Asuwa area of Fukui City, Fukui Prefecture. The stone is said to have been named “Shakuya Stone” because the quality of the stone was particularly excellent in the Shakuya district at the northwestern foot of the mountain. Additionally, when wet, it turns a deep blue. Dating back approximately 1,500 years to the Kofun period, it was used for stone coffins and was also cherished by the Asakura clan, who ruled Echizen Province; it was also used in stone pagodas and other structures. Mining ceased in 1999, and it is now rarely available on the market. It is said to be a stone that instills passion and charisma, leading one to victory. *What is a [Magatama]? 継体天皇が発見した越前の石。
猛将「柴田勝家」は、城の屋根を笏谷石で葺いたといわれるほどこの「碧」を愛しました。
主に、福井県福井市の足羽山一帯で採掘され、なかでも北西側山麓部の笏谷地区の石質が優れていたことから、笏谷石という名称がついたとされています。
また、水に濡らすと深い青色に変化します。
古くは約千五百年前の古墳時代に石棺、越前国を支配した朝倉氏にも愛された石で、石塔などにも使われました。
1999年には採掘が終了し、現在では流通が少なくなっています。
情熱とカリスマ性を与え勝利へと導く石といわれます。
