Description
| *What is [Amakusa Stone (AMAKUSA)]? A stone from Oyano Island in Kami-Amakusa, Kumamoto Prefecture, said to be the birthplace of Amakusa Shiro Tokisada. This area is famous for its hidden Christians and the Shimabara Rebellion; the Sakitsu Church in Shimo-Amakusa was inscribed on the World Heritage List in June 2018 as part of the [Hidden Christian Sites in the Nagasaki and Amakusa Regions]. The area’s stunning, historic streetscape and the unique Japanese-style church—with its tiled roof and tatami-mat flooring—continue to captivate visitors. Amakusa Stone is also famous as a whetstone, but it is a mysterious stone with a beautiful grain pattern so realistic that it could be mistaken for wood. It is formed from a lisoidite intrusive rock (rhyolite) that contains no phenocrysts; the wood-grain-like pattern emerges as a result of hydrothermal activity. Through this hydrothermal process, minerals such as quartz, mica, and tourmaline are incorporated into the intrusion, resulting in the stone’s formation. [About Stone Club] We are [Stone Club], a natural stone wholesaler with a physical store in Hakuro-cho, Osaka. We handle planning and manufacturing at our own factories in Japan and overseas, and carry a wide selection of natural stones carefully selected locally.
