| *What is [Mishima Old Fuji Lava Stone]? The sacred Mount Fuji has taken its current form through repeated eruptions dating back approximately 100,000 years. In particular, the eruption that occurred about 10,000 years ago is known as [Mishima Lava]; it is said to have flowed for approximately 40 km, completely filling the valleys between Mount Ashitaka and Mount Hakone. The reason it flowed such a great distance is said to be that the eruption was not violent, but rather the lava flowed out like a river. Typical Fuji lava comes from the eruption in the 4th year of the Hōei era (1707), so compared to that, this lava is from an eruption that occurred an incredibly long time ago, making it a truly valuable specimen. 霊峰富士山は約10万年前から噴火を繰り返して現在の姿となりました。
なかでも、約1万年前の噴火を、「三島溶岩」と呼び、およそ40kmも流れ、愛鷹山と箱根山の谷を埋め尽くしたといわれています。
なぜここまで広く流れたのかというと、噴火が激しいものではなく、溶岩が流れ、川のように噴火したからだといわれています。
通常の富士溶岩は宝永4年の噴火のもの(1707年)で、それから考えればとてつもなく古くに噴火した貴重な溶岩だといえます。
