| *What is [Oita Yoshino Stone]? This historic stone is the subject of a legend that the Dango Bridge monument and the Golden Bridge were built from it. The Dango Bridge, built during the Sengoku period, no longer exists; only a monument stands in its place. Legend has it that a samurai named Hara Osumi-no-kami, who served Otomo Sorin and was renowned for his strength, lived in Nakahara, Yoshino Village. When a bridge was washed away by heavy rain, he is said to have carried a massive stone weighing 100 kan from the mountain behind his house under his arm to build a new bridge. 団子橋の碑や金橋がこの吉野石で作られたという逸話がある、歴史のある石です。
戦国時代に作られた団子橋は今ではなくなってしまい、記念碑だけが建っています。
吉野村中原に大友宗麟に仕えた原大隅守という力自慢の侍が住んでいて、大雨で流れた橋の代わりに裏山の重さ百貫もある大石を小脇に抱えてきて橋を作ったという伝説があります。
その石と同じものが吉野石です。
