Description
| *What is [Izuyama Porcelain Stone (ARITA Stone)]? A renowned type of porcelain stone used as the raw material for Arita-yaki and Imari-yaki. It was first discovered in Japan in the mid-17th century by the Korean potter Ri Sanpei, and is credited with spreading the culture of porcelain throughout Japan. As a result, Japanese porcelain was shipped to Europe as a major export, and along with ukiyo-e prints, Japonism spread rapidly. Deeply impressed by this, Europeans founded Meissen in Germany, where hard-paste porcelain was produced for the first time in Europe. Among these, many pieces of porcelain featuring patterns inspired by the Arita and Kakiemon styles were also produced. Today, only a limited number of kilns in Arita use this Izumiyama porcelain stone, and since it is impossible to obtain the stone directly, it is considered a “phantom stone” steeped in tradition and culture. [About Stone Club] We are [Stone Club], a natural stone wholesaler with a physical store in Hakurōchō, Osaka.
