| *What is [Suwa Teppei Andesite]? It is a pyroxene andesite formed by magmatic activity in the shallow subsurface 25 million years ago, mined in the Suwa*Saku region of Nagano Prefecture. It has a tendency to split into 2–3 cm-thick slabs (tabular jointing) and was used as a substitute for roof tiles during the Edo period. Because it is more durable than traditional roof tiles, it is highly valued in regions with heavy snowfall. Suwa City was named after the Suwa clan, a family of military commanders who ruled the area in the Middle Ages. 2?3cmの板状に剥がれる性質をもっており(板状節理)江戸時代には屋根瓦の代わりに使用されていました。
