| *What is the [Kumano Hayatama Stone]? This stone, with its rich, deep hue, comes from [Shingu], one of the three sacred mountains of Kumano, which were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2004 as the [Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range]. Since ancient times, it has been customary to travel along the Kumano Kodo on the way to visit Ise Grand Shrine and to pay respects at the three grand shrines of the Kumano Sanzan (Kumano Hayatama Grand Shrine, Kumano Hongu Shrine, and Kumano Nachi Grand Shrine). It is particularly fascinating that Shingu—a grand shrine where the Medicine Buddha (Yakushi Nyorai) is enshrined and where a living faith still thrives—shares its name with this stone. 2004年に「紀伊山地の霊場と参詣道」としてユネスコ世界遺産に登録された熊野三山のひとつ「新宮」の深い味わいのある色味の石です。
伊勢神宮へ参拝するときに熊野古道を通り、熊野三山にある3つの大社(熊野速玉大社、熊野本宮神社、熊野那智大社)の参拝も古来より行われておりました。
この新宮は薬師如来が祀られる大社が今もなお生きた信仰としてあり、その同じ名前がついている石であるということは非常に興味深いところです。
神倉神社にはゴトビキ岩といわれる巨石を祀る場所もあります。
