| *What is [Kamiyo Chestnut]? “Kamiyo” refers to the era in Japanese mythology preceding the reign of Emperor Jimmu (before 660 BCE). It is said that these trees—which have been “sleeping” for ages—were accidentally buried alive in a rare environment created by natural disasters, where they remained intact without decaying for thousands of years. These trees are occasionally unearthed during land development projects and are used for decorative elements in high-end Japanese architecture and in the creation of fine arts and crafts. Chestnut wood is considered valuable and difficult to work with because it warps and cracks severely when dried. Kamiyo Chestnut is harder and darker in color than regular chestnut, and it has virtually no scent. 神代（かみよ）とは、日本神話で神武天皇の在位する以前までの時代（紀元前660年以前）のことをさします。
昔から眠りつづけているという意味で、天変地異により、偶然出来た貴重な環境で千年単位で生きたまま腐らず埋まってしまった木といわれています。
土地開発等により偶然採掘され、高級日本建築の装飾や、美術工芸品の製作に用いられています。
栗は乾燥時の暴れが激しく割れも激しいため加工が難しく貴重とされています。
神代栗は元の栗より、硬く色も濃くなり、匂いはほぼありません。
