Description
| During World War II, the primary winter clothing of the U.S. military was wool overcoats. Wool coats, which were heavy and difficult to move in, were unpopular with soldiers on the front lines, and lightweight winter clothing that was easy to move in was required. Development of the M-51 Field Parka began immediately after the war, and it was adopted in 1951. The M-51 Field Parka was equipped with a detachable wool pile liner and inner hood to cope with various weather conditions. The successor, the M-65 Parker, was adopted in 1965, and the M-51 Parker released to the private sector is called the Fishtail Parka or Mod Parka. |
