東京都江戸川区出身。
2007年五月場所から2008年三月場所の定年まで木村庄之助を務めた。
現在は得意のITを駆使した講演活動に取り組む。
監修書籍に『相撲通レッスン帖』大泉書店2015年、『大相撲の解剖図鑑』エクスナレッジ2016年。
デビッド・シャピロ NHK総合放送の「大相撲」英語解説者。
NHK WORLD SPORTS JAPANにも定期的に出演している。
